Position Overview

The Director of Executive Education and Lifelong Learning is responsible for leading the University’s efforts to develop and implement executive education programs and foster strategic partnerships with professional associations, business, community, industry, government, and public-sector groups. The DLL will play a crucial part in integrating academic excellence with industry practice, enhancing the University’s reputation as a leader in lifelong learning for professionals and executives. This involves market research, strategic and budgetary planning, defining target audiences, designing, promoting, and delivering innovative courses/programs. It also includes recruiting subject matter experts, negotiating contracts, creating new delivery options, and assessing program/course success.

Duke Kunshan University is a partnership of Duke University, Wuhan University and the Municipality of Kunshan, China. DKU is located in Kunshan China, about 30 km from Shanghai. DKU offers five graduate degree programs including a Master of Management Studies and launched its undergraduate degree program in 2018. DKU also currently offers custom executive education programs to Chinese and multinational companies. Our beautiful 83-acre campus with a 200-bedroom conference center provides a reflective environment for relaxed, transformative learning.

Essential Duties

  • Lead the design of various lifelong learning programs. Assist the Executive Vice Chancellor in managing data-driven, evidence-based decisions for strategic planning, programming, and operations of lifelong learning programs.
  • Network with professional associations, business, community, industry, government, and public-sector groups to identify and assess education and training needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and educational development specialists in other departments/schools and institutions to deliver online and offline programs.
  • Ensure the sustainability of lifelong learning programs by generating revenue through course registration, partnerships, subscription services, license agreements, and external sponsorship.
  • Establish, maintain and manage internal and external partnerships to facilitate the acceptance and recognition of DKU lifelong learning programs.
  • Deploy marketing campaigns and materials for courses and programs, including advertising, brochures, and flyers. Ensure that courses/programs satisfy and adhere to relevant accrediting standards, where applicable.
  • Ensure adequate systems, infrastructure, resources, and workforce for successful program delivery and expansion.
  • Recruit subject matter experts to write and assess course materials. Act as editor, reviewer, content contributor, as appropriate.
  • Negotiate contracts and memoranda of agreement (MOAs) with internal and external clients and service providers.
  • Develop and improve evaluation systems and processes, including benchmarks and performance indicators.
  • Lead and supervise the Office of Lifelong Learning Programs staff. Responsible for the coordination of overall workflow of the Office of Lifelong Learning including personnel matters such as hiring and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee office and individual program budgetary accounts, including preparation of the Office’s annual budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • University employees’ job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows and complexity in its programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Education, Organizational Development, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in a leadership role within higher education, executive education, or corporate training and development.
  • Demonstrable experience in building and managing corporate relationships and partnerships.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful and profitable professional development programs.
  • Strong understanding of the executive education landscape, including market trends and the needs of adult learners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business or a related field is MUST, MBA and/or PhD is preferred.
  • Experience working within an international and culturally diverse environment.
  • Hands-on experience with digital learning platforms and innovative educational technologies.
  • Publication record or demonstrable engagement with the faculty and experts in areas relevant to executive education.
