The Director of Corporate Partnerships is charged with developing and implementing the Rady School’s cohesive outreach strategy for engaging key corporate partners for the benefit of the school and the business community. Working in close collaboration with senior leadership, the Director of Corporate Partnerships will advance student recruitment, job and internship placements, executive education as well as ties that will promote faculty research and our centers of excellence.

The Director brokers, develops and sustains corporate partnerships for the UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management. The Director engages and expands corporate, community, and association partners. The position takes action to maximize the value of the relationships between the corporate community and the UCSD Rady School of Management, aligning the priorities of the Dean of the Rady School and the Rady Graduate Programs unit, particularly the Admissions and Careers areas, and tangentially Executive Education, Development and Alumni Relations.

This position manages an individual portfolio of executives and corporate partners, establishing and expanding employment and internship opportunities for Rady MBA students, and Rady graduate students in the Masters of Business Analytics, Masters of Finance, and other Masters programs. The Director will develop and execute strategies to deliver new opportunities for employment and internships.

The Corporate Partners Director will collaborate with colleagues in corporate relations, development and alumni engagement on developing strategy, creating and sustaining partnerships, and in negotiating and executing corporate investment in the Rady School of Management.

The Director advises the Rady School leadership on issues related to industry engagement, and ensures the opportunity for industry partners to communicate their priorities as it relates to the future of their industry.

The Director is expected to develop and execute strategies that will deliver and document new opportunities for:

  • The Rady School of Management Dean: introductions/appointments at the highest-level of the organizations
  • The Rady Executive Education efforts: introductions that lead to an increase in customized programs and open enrollment courses
  • Graduate Programs: recruitment (student sponsorship), student capstone project opportunities, internship and employment opportunities, on and off-campus recruiting activities, including supporting student treks and immersion trips outside of San Diego
  • Development and Alumni Relations: opportunities leading to new sponsorship, fellowship, and gifts
  • Centers of Excellence: introductions/appointments that can further the student, academic and industry programs run out of the centers.

This position provides an interface between Rady and the business community, expanding the Rady School brand to new partners and enhancing the brand with existing partners. The position represents the Rady to senior executives in corporations and executive directors in industry associations. With input from senor leadership, the Director tailors strategies to different industries in San Diego and elsewhere.

All responsibilities require high levels of independent thinking, autonomy, decision-making and action, relationship building at executive levels and handling of sensitive information. The Director is expected to be knowledgeable about the Rady School’s educational programs, executive education offerings, and marketing messages. Performance of these duties requires a high degree of independence, professionalism, and demonstrated experience with industry-university partnership programs.

  • Evenings and weekends may be required. Must be willing and able to travel locally, domestically, and internationally (rare)to travel to corporate locations and events.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years experience in a corporate relations and/or program development. Experience creating a network of corporate partners. Experience using a variety of outreach methods to establish a successful corporate/community outreach program, advisory board, mentorship program, or similar program.
  • Experience developing collaborations and programs between industry and academia or another not-for-profit organization/foundation or similar organization. Ability to break down complex concepts and tailor communication to industry partner unique needs and interests.
  • Proven leadership and strategic planning experience. Experience creating or participating in the creation of a mission statement and strategic plan. Experience in a start-up or in a new program/department/endeavor and the ability to oversee a program from planning to inception to steady state. Experience with budget planning and priority setting. Experience creating an outreach strategy with measurable goals and objectives; experience planning strategic events and outreach opportunities (including logistics) and delivering results.
  • Experience and capability in dealing person-to-person with corporate managers and executives in development of joint programs. Experience using creative ideas, synthesizing the needs of two different organizations to create a successful collaborative program.
  • Knowledge of public relations practices. Marketing and communications experience. Experience crafting and promoting a brand. Experience serving as a representative of a brand in the community, presenting a professional, diplomatic, positive demeanor at all times.
  • Experience in the full spectrum of External Relations including Development, Communications, Stewardship, Alumni, Marketing, and Corporate/Industry Relations. Experience interacting directly with donors or corporate relations decision-makers. Experience evaluating individual and corporations in relationship to their readiness to provide financial and other resource support. Knowledge of fundraising dynamics and development concepts with proven success in assisting with identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts.
  • Rapport and communication skills geared to corporate partners, experience developing collaborations and programs between industry and academia or another not-for-profit organization/foundation or similar organization. Experience dealing person-to-person with corporate managers and executives in development of joint programs. Experience using creative ideas, synthesizing the needs of two different organizations to create a successful collaborative program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public relations, fundraising, communications, engineering, science, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Superb rapport-building interpersonal skills related to quickly establishing a rapport with a wide variety of individuals. Excellent written/verbal presentation, communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, and industry partners. Skills related to tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion. Collaboration skills. Sales skills.
  • Administrative skills: experience or ability to function administratively as a one-person, self-sufficient unit without administrative support staff. Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook email, experience scheduling meetings/appointments. Hands-on experience creating/editing proposals suitable for corporate partners, spreadsheets and other documents, creating queries, experience manipulating data & generating reports with data software.


  • Proven successful experience representing a graduate business school or similar organization, in a successful outreach, communications, employment/careers, or development position.
  • Experience establishing/expanding an internship/employment program for high achieving students or professional students. Experience organizing, coordinating, or supervising an internship program or employment/careers/jobs program.
  • MBA preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of the structure and needs of a professional graduate business school with a keen understanding of the importance of corporate relationships for growth and success.

Hiring Salary Range
$80,000 – $129,000 /year
