Position Summary

Reporting to the Rice Business Executive Director of Executive Education, the Associate Director Marketing and Communications is responsible for creating, deploying, and measuring integrated marketing strategies and projects supporting executive education programming and audience-specific initiatives offered through Rice Business Executive Education (RBEE). Strategies and tactics must drive and support annual registration and revenue goals, increase awareness and contribute to the overall success of RBEE and its open and custom programming. Plans and projects incorporate an integrated mix of appropriate tactics and media, such as online/web advertising, search engine marketing, direct mail, radio, social, web content, recruitment materials, etc. The Associate Director will have direct and consistent customer engagement to capture and communicate customer experience stories driving current and relevant marketing content and approaches. The Associate Director Marketing and Communications works in collaboration with Rice Business faculty, the Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education, the Executive Director of Marketing, and the RBEE business development and program management teams to meet goals for assigned EE marketing and sales channel projects and portfolios.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years of marketing, communications or brand management
  • No substitutions for education or experience allowed

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for overseeing strategic long-range plans/programs to meet organizational objectives for a school or department
  • Defines and/or leverages the communication and brand strategy for the organization incorporating appropriate channels
  • Sets and monitors budgets for broad based projects impacting many areas
  • Manages and maintains a Customer Relationship Management system (HubSpot preferred) and supporting sales operations.
  • Plans, directs, and delivers an active and broad digital and social media presence, coordinating and supporting Rice Business faculty and staff in augmenting and extending these initiatives through their personal channels.
  • Designs and delivers direct sales content and messaging and will design and support the sales prospect triage efforts including direct sales follow up.
  • Selects and oversees the department vendor and agency relationships
  • Writes, designs, and coordinates the production of marketing and communication materials
  • Leads market research and analysis efforts
  • Guides organization to use the results in strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting
  • Participates in university-wide and / or organization-wide initiatives and cross-functional teams to establish the organization as a strategic partner and thought leader
  • Becomes intimately familiar with the open enrollment and custom portfolio products and produces targeted and relevant content to use across marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Provides guidance to others
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Flexible, creative thinker open to new ideas and changing priorities within a fast-paced organization.
  • Understanding of key marketing analytics including conversion rates and optimization.
  • Regional marketing experience specific to higher education preferred, including understanding of state and regional demographics and local media.
  • National understanding of the executive education marketplace is preferred.
  • Higher education and business school experience a plus.
  • Experience working with university faculty a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
